 Chess Problems

Chess problems page

It's been said that chess problems have as much to do with chess as crosswords have to do with literature. Anyway, if you enjoy sharpening your analytical skills with chess problems, we plan to add to this section until there are hundreds here on which to test yourself.

When you think you've found the key move (or you've given up!) click on the 'Solution' link
below each board. You'll be able to play out the solution on a dynamic board simply by clicking on the moves in the move list on the right or on the arrows underneath the board.
Play through the alternative Black attempts to wriggle free of the mating net as well as the main line!

Here are four to start you off. (They're all 'White to mate in two'.)

Here's one to try down at the club.

I don't  think you'll come across this position in your next game or two but you might have fun trying to force mate in three moves.
